Marcus‘ interest in helicopters became obvious through publishing several helicopter books from age 18 on. He is a 30+ year professional pilot, flight instructor and examiner with a focus on safety management and human performance. He started to fly helicopters in Oregon in 1994 and was the European representative for Hillsboro Aviation for 25 years, helping hundreds of european pilots to start a flying career in the US. He operated his own flight school and commercial operation in Germany and served in different postholder roles in technical and management positions. Marcus flew a variety of types and models and is currently dual rated under FAA regulations as commercial pilot and CFI as well as commercial pilot, flight instructor and being an examiner on several hundred checkrides in the Robinson 44, AS350/H125 and Bell UH-1 under EASA regulations.
After the earthquake in Haiti, Marcus volunteered to provide EMS and support flights for the UN and humanitarian aid organizations in a H125. He was also the lead pilot for a heliskiing operation in the Himalayas in Kashmir, dropping skiers to spots up to 15.000 ft.
For the last 25 years, Marcus attended the Robinson Safety Course 15+ times and works closely with the factory in the development of their new training courses. In his efforts he focuses on the three areas Knowledge, Skills and Attitude (KSA), with an emphasize on human factors as the leading cause for accidents.
Through his network and experience, he can help new pilots through training and advice to find their way into our industry.
